Christian Hang-Hicks
Principal AI Architect and CTO-in-Residence
As the Principal AI Architect and CTO-in-Residence at Mach49, Christian Hang-Hicks plays a pivotal role in shaping the technological vision and implementation of Shift AI, Mach49's cutting-edge generative AI platform. In this dual capacity, Christian bridges the gap between advanced AI technologies and practical business applications, driving innovation in venture building. Having lived and worked on three continents, he has developed expertise in working with diverse teams across cultures and time zones.
As Principal AI Architect, Christian leads the design and development of Shift AI's core architecture, ensuring that the platform leverages state-of-the-art technologies to deliver powerful, scalable solutions. He oversees the integration of various AI models and techniques, to create a comprehensive suite of tools that accelerate and enhance the venture building process.
In his role as CTO-in-Residence, Christian provides strategic technological guidance to Mach49's venture building teams and client organizations. He helps identify opportunities for AI integration in new ventures, advises on technology stack decisions, and offers insights on emerging tech trends that could impact future business models. This aspect of his role ensures that Mach49's ventures are built on solid technological foundations and are well-positioned to leverage AI for competitive advantage.
Leveraging an academic background in theoretical computability analysis, Christian was the founding engineer at Armorize, a software security startup out of Taipei focused on static software analysis. He built and led the initial technology and development team, after which his involvement in cooperations with partner companies led him to San Francisco, where he eventually joined other startups.
As the leader of the architecture team, Christian oversaw the build-out of the software infrastructure for Taulia, a fintech enterprise SaaS company acquired by SAP, with development teams in locations spanning two continents. He then co-founded Prestozon — one of the first integrators with the Amazon Ads API, where he also served as CTO. As one of the top consumers of the API as the ad business grew, his feedback and discussions with their development teams shaped many policies and standards of Amazon’s Ad technologies to this day. Prestozon was then acquired by Pacvue, where Christian oversaw the integration into the larger e-commerce platform and coordinated global software development and cloud infrastructure initiatives across the various business units.
Born and raised in Germany, Christian holds a degree in computer science from RWTH Aachen University. He acquired a certificate in Chinese Language from the Beijing Foreign Studies University and published academic papers in cooperation with Academica Sinica and the National Taiwan University in Taipei. He now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two children.
